SPM English Workshop 2.0/2018- Poems and Captain Nobody

Alhamdulillah...after three postponements, this workshop finally took off. 102 SPM candidates were in IKBC (Ibn Batutta Knowledge Centre) for the workshop. Another 20 had to re-sit their papers in the Maths Room. I dealt with the novel Captain Nobody and Poems namely The Living Photograph and The Charge of the Light Brigade. Here's hoping that students understand the poems and novel better Ameen  😇

Captain Nobody: A collection of Forecast Questions and Evidence from 5 Khawarizmi and 5 Syafie

Hi all! My students in 5 Khawarizmi and 5 Syafie are in the process of answering and finding the evidence for fifteen forecast questions on 'Captain Nobody' in our preparation for the coming SPM exam. I'm inviting teachers from any school to add on to the evidence. All you need to do is download the material which I will download in my blog soon (am still editing them) and get your students to add  on the evidence that we may have missed. Email your students' contribution to rahmahs@yahoo.com. The end product will then be a booklet with fifteen questions complete with solid evidence for our students to revise. Let me know your school so I can add your school's name to the booklet. Hope to hear from you!

What happened to Lulu in 5 As Syafie today

Date: 4th May 2016
Double period

In view of the coming mid-year exam next week, I decided to carry out some beyond the text activities based on the poem "What has happened to Lulu?" My students surprised me with their response particularly the telephone conversation between Lulu and her mother! The following is the rough lesson plan:

ACTIVITY
STEPS
MATERIALS

1.    SET INDUCTION
     (5 mins)
1.    Write one word to describe Lulu.
Post-it notes
2.    Sequencing the poem
     (10 mins)
2.    Sequencing the poem
Strips and envelopes
3.    Role-play
     (50 mins)
3.    A telephone conversation between Lulu and her mother
Ppt.
4.    Game
     (10 mins)
4.   Wheel of Fortune
Post it notes
Score keeper

For the role-play, provide the following situation:

THREE WEEKS LATER...

Three weeks have passed and nothing has been heard of Lulu.
Infact, she has found somewhere to live, made new friends and
found a job. She decides it is time to phone home. Why? She
doesn't intend to return yet. How will she feel as she dials?
 What is her mother
doing when she calls? What is her reaction?

The students were given about 30 mins to prepare the telephone conversation. I need to compress the files first before uploading...perhaps in another post :)

Here's the link to the powerpoint I used.
Happy teaching!

One group was able to rearrange the strips correctly based on the poem...quite challenging!

Mind the dirty board! It could not be erased due to permanent ink...

May the modules ease your teaching and may Allah bless the team that built them. Ameen. You can go to "Modules" tab above and download. Yes, freebies are nice..just be honest enough to give credit to Kluang District English Panel or PPD Kluang o.k. Happy teaching :)

Ace Your Literature Modules: Thanks to all!

Another module? Well, you can never tire yourself from modules if you're teachers and who knows it may just help that teacher in the classroom somewhere. There are two modules altogether: Form 1 and Form 4. We have infused i-think and HOTS wherever possible and answer keys are provided. Plus....there is the power point to consolidate teaching the poem too!

My thanks to all of you for your contribution in our Ace Your Literature project! Not forgetting Madam Lew Mui Lan (Chairperson, District English Language Committee/Principal of SMK Canossian Convent, Kluang) and Tn Hj Musa Muhammad (Language Officer for English, PPD Kluang) May Allah bless our efforts.

Literature Module Meeting

Date: 25th May 2015
Venue: SM Sains Sembrong, Kluang

Today, we welcomed a team of fourteen teachers to a meeting to discuss the Literature Component module based on the current texts for Forms 1 and 4. Before we started I gave some input on what modules area and what features good modules should have.

It felt good to be active again in the district although I know one has to have a  lot of patience with module-building. I've had countless experience in module-building and it is not easy. It can be a lonely affair when you sit down and edit those modules yourself. So this time around, I'm overseeing the project. It was good to have a team of young teachers and some senior ones- a nice mix. It is good exposure for them in their career path.

The teachers involved are Radhika (SASEM), Norini (SMK Dato Hj Hassan Yunos), Sharon (SMK Jalan Kota, Team Leader for Form 4), Mogana (SMK Jalan Mengkibol), Maisaarah (SMK Tengku Aris Bendahara), Nur Azliena Azis (SMK Dato Ibrahim Majid), Mohd Najib (SMK DAto Abdul Rahman Andak), Fikri (SMK Seri Kota), Nursyuhada, (SMK Sultan Abdul Jalil), Nurashikin (SMK Seri Intan Team Leader for Form 1), Shiknesvary (SMK Canossian Convent), Aizat (SMK Layang-Layang) and Nur Ezza (SMK Tinggi Kluang).

We will meet again in July to piece things together. Meanwhile, enjoy the hols and the marking :)

Happy teaching!

A fighter's Lines: Lesson Plan

Tomorrow is observation day! Yours truly will be observed by the PK1. Can't say am excited but it's something schools do as a routine. Even after years of teaching and observations, no one can really say they enjoy being observed :) I normally have a habit of outlining the lesson plan of the observed lesson and keeping all the necessary files in one folder. Well, here's the plan. Hope I can execute it well tomorrow. In case you have better ideas you can still advise me o.k :) Just leave your comments.

Happy teaching peeps!
