Visit by Sakura (SM Sains Kucing Utara)

I just have to blog today after such a long break! First up, SAKURA visited us last week, precisely on the 6th April. SAKURA is as 'young' as my school but their achievements are truly inspiring. At such a tender age, the school has already shot up to no.8 in the SBP rankings. It is we who should be bench marking them and learning from them! Anyway, I was tasked to share our PLC programme and I hope I didn't disappoint anyone :) Thank you for visiting us and we hope to emulate you!

One for the album!

Yours truly, my principal on my right and on far right Dr Norisah, principal of SAKURA

Enjoyed this gathering..simple but joyful and the food was delicious, especially the rendang. We are so lucky to have the new canteen operator. Everything I tasted was to my liking :)

After a week of Adilfitri celebrations, it's time to pit those brains against the SPM Trial :) Whoever said Hari Raya is for a month is utterly confused and has got to get his brains fixed hehe... All the best guys! That goes to 5 Syafie and5 Abu Hanifah too :) May the best man win!

Welcome to Tn Hj Sharif Junidek, Sasem's second principal

Welcome to Tn Hj Sharif Junidek, SASEM's second principal! Tn Hj Sharif hails from SMK Sri Sembrong, Kluang and was an ex-student and teacher of SM Sains Johor, a school I taught for 21 years. In addressing his first assembly today, he had a few important talking points for all students:
  • Tagline: "Anak yang baik mendengar kata"
  • The differences between "cerdik" and "pandai"
  • Being grateful to God always
  • See problems as challenges and challenges as opportunities
  • Teachers will take their oath ("Aku Janji") next week
His briefing with teachers touched on:
  • The need for teachers to support the head of the school
  • Empowering senior teachers
  • Empowering teachers
  • A teacher's touch
SASEM extends a warm welcome to Tn Hj Sharif Junidek. May SASEM scale to greater heights with your leadership.

Feeling upbeat about 2014 academic year!

Center: The Principal, En Mohd Noh Mohd Yusof flanked by our new PK HEM (Cik Noraazizah) and PK Koko (En Mazlan)

Funny how some meetings are conducted. Our second meeting today only required me to listen, listen and listen :) The day before yesterday, we had our first meeting and tomorrow will be the Curriculum Meeting . More listening strategies will be adopted I guess. Someone said to me once, having too many meetings is "the recipe for failure" based on the Germans' experience of losing the world war. I wonder if there is any truth in this...

I look forward to 2014 and teaching! I want to do a better job than I did last year especially with the PBS classes and I pray for better health.

A note on PMR 2013:
  • SASEM's PMR: GPS 1.13
  • English Language: GPS 1.23
  • Anugerah Cemerlang Sekolah Yang Mencapai ETR
  • Anugerah Emas (Kehadiran Pelajar)
Congrats to SASEM and all English teachers. This is what Allah has decided for so Alhamdulillah!

Dinner Treat for Perfect Score Club, Prime city Hotel, Kluang

Top scorers from Form 3 and 5 were feted with a sumptious spread in Prime City Hotel, Kluang last night. The food was great but I missed the 'cendol'! Later, I ferried Hidir, Din, Sulaiman and Ummu back to school for another do- Tuanku Hisamudin's House dinner. Ummu unexpectedly vomitted in the car so I drove her straight to her hostel to get a change of clothes. Poor girl! Rain messed things up a little- the tables and chairs at Dataran Kristal were all wet. However, well-done to the Form 4's for organising this for the seniors. Good job! I had a teriible headache and didn't stay long.I heard the beriani was good.

All the best Sasem's first batch of SPM candidates!

Neuro-linguistics Programming for PMR and SPM 2013 candidates (Phase One)

One of my responsibilities as Coordinator for Excellence Programmes in SASEM is to organise courses that help PMR and SPM candidates as they will be sitting for the first public exams for SASEM this year. For a change, I decided to call Counselor, Pn Siti Sheahila Abdul Rashid, from SMK Kota Jaya Kota Tinggi to hold a half day course. She is a certified practitioner of NLP and is pursuing a PHD on the discipline. Students' evaluation was excellent and a second phase was in order for other candidates. Since this was my first experience of the NLP, it was definitely and eye-opener :)

Teacher's Day Dinner by the fifth formers

Date: 18th May 2013
Venue: Khalifah Hall, SASEM

A million thanks to all the fifth formers for the special dinner to celebrate Teacher's Day. The food was great and the waiter service was first rate. I wish more teachers had attended though and that this was not held in the midst of the mid-year exam :) Proud to see Idayu and Afiq performing as well as Tarmizi. Well-done to all!

Teacher's Day in SASEM: 16th May 2013

An awesome Teacher's day celebration despite the gloomy outlook! I must admit I was really happy on this day. Thanks to the organising committee. However, perhaps a little coordination would have prevented some delays in the programmes. Still, a day to remember :)
