Majlis Guru Cemerlang Kluang First Meeting

En Ismail chairing the meeting
Committee Members
Date: 11 Feb 2010
Venue: SMK Jalan Mengkibol

Alas the first Majlis Guru Cemerlang Kluang meeting finally took off at SMK Jalan Mengkibol today. It was a fruitful meeting chaired by acting chairperson, En Ismail Yon. Programmes for 2010 were outlined and they include:
  • Video-taping of Best Practices in the classroom
  • Peer Coaching (Rakan Sebimbing)
  • KILAS programme (UPSR, PMR & SPM)
  • Visit to a High Performance School
  • Family Day
I raised five matters in this meeting:
  • the need for GC to publish anything related to their subjects and expertise
  • GC must lead in innovation (in line with PPD Kluang's declaration that 2010 is 'Year of innovation') Click here for the relevant forms: Form 1 and Form 2
  • a networking with UTM or UTHO as they have a vast wealth of expertise which can be tapped
  • that the MGC Kluang blog be uploaded with T & L materials from all subjects
  • that the issue of GC doing something for 'personal glory' be addressed
Hjh Khalidah (state secretary) informed all present of the state convention for excellent teachers which will take place from 22-23 April 200. Ten representatives from each district will be selected to attend the conference. On a more serious note, Hjh Khalidah pointed out the comments by the Inspectorates that there have been a lot of complaints on the quality of the new GCs appointed without observation. She found this to be somewhat demotivating to the new GCs.  My opinion on this is, you just have to prove them wrong because there is just no other way.

At the JPN level, the officer in charge of GC is now En Jasmi Omar (replacing Tn Hj Shamsudin Haron who was recently promoted as principal) and En Nor Azrin from the Inspectorates (replacing Pn Haizan). Pn Zanariah, a senior GC aptly pointed out the inconsistencies in the election of the present line-up and suggested that it be relooked.  I think this is a relevant point because the election of the present office bearers was not conducted in the right way. The meeting therefore agreed that an extraordinary AGM (tentative date 25th March) will be called to resolve the matter- a step in the right direction.

Tokoh GC Kluang District 2009

Date: 11 November 2009
Time: 8-11 p.m
Venue: Prime City Hotel

It was raining cats and dogs as I drove to Prime City for the Kluang District Majlis Guru Cemerlang dinner. The wipers had to work extra hard as it was almost impossible to see what was ahead. To make things worse, silly me forgot to take the umbrella from the rear window first, so I had to fetch it when I reached the parking lot. You don't need a super imagination to picture what happened afterwards! I arrived, pretty wet and rushed to the 6th floor. As I was part of the welcoming committee, I waited for the VIPs- En Shamsudin Haron (Assistant Director, JPNJ), En Mohd Said Daimon and En Shahat (PPD Kluang). STK provided the Ghazal performance and Sains Johor entertained us with the zapin dance and a song from one of the girls. It was great to be greeted by my ex students from Sains Johor! They were part of the zapin team. How they have grown!

We celebrated Pn Sapiah's retirement too in this dinner. All the best to her. May she have a wonderful retirement. I received the 'Tokoh Guru Cemerlang Daerah' Award 2009- Alhamdulillah. Thanks to the selection committee. Credit must be given to Ismail (Kluang YDP) for all the hardwork he has put in and of course the committee for organising many activities this year. By the time the event was over, it was already 11 p.m. and the rain had stopped. In the mad rush to my car (only two cars left in the parking lot and I was pretty scared), I left my umbrella behind!!

Briefing for Kluang District Excellent Teachers (ET)

Date: 5th November 2009
Time: 2.15p.m
Venue: SMK Taman Kluang Barat

Tn Hj Jalil Satari from PPD Kluang conducted a briefing for all excellent teachers (ETs) on the need to focus on the upcoming SPM examination. He presented data on the SPM Trial Exam for the state and the district. Kluang is placed 6th out of 10 districts with a GPS of 6.35. He also wants excellent teachers to oversee 4 programmes:

1. The setting up of a task force based on subjects. The task force will be concerned with: analysis of subjects, teaching and learning consolidation programmes for teachers, creation of curriculum standards for subjects (e.g. students' work), expert help from District Panels and Programme for 2010.

2. Subject Teacher's Immersion- MGC Kluang to identify the teachers, modus operandi, schedulling etc.)

3. Innovation- action research, teaching and learning innovations, teaching modules and KMKK (Kumpulan Meningkatkan Mutu Kerja). The PPD is planning to have an Action Research Seminar for Excellent Teachers (ET) in 2010. And finally...

4. ETs' teaching and learning should be a model to others e.g.s teacher's profile, record book, delivery and student's work and marking.

Sounds a mouthful, doesn't it? Well, certainly not for the faint-hearted..good luck ETs!!

If some people have their way, they would want me to blog like this (robot-like) from now on- a joke- get it? :)
