About Me

Assalamualaikum

Dear all,

This is my last post. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for following my blog all these years, 11 years to be exact! Not many can boast of having consistently blogged for 11 wonderful years. I am very proud that engoasis.blogspot.com has reached 2 million ++ page views. Thanks to all of you.

It was 11 years (2008) ago that I started blogging. Learnt everything from scratch with the help of Uncle Google :) I've thoroughly enjoyed sharing ideas with all of you out there. I hope many have benefited from this blog. I know I have many silent readers who are too shy to reveal themselves. This blog was always about giving you the rod and not the fish. It was about sharing ideas and possibilities, not ready-made lesson plans, handouts and others. It is important for teachers to think about their teaching and how best to improve their skills and knowledge. Once we stop thinking about we do in the classroom, we fizzle out and lose our motivation. I started from zero too and grew from the sharings of other teachers.

I retired in January 2019 and am now venturing into things I never had the opportunity to do. It's a tough decision to finally end this blog as blogging is my passion. I will miss sharing with all of you.  As educators, always be willing to share simply because we become better teachers by sharing. Gone are the days where knowledge is hoarded and one feels “powerful” by having that knowledge.

With the ever-growing challenges in education, stay positive teachers and you will be fine. Give your best always.  Insha Allah you will be richly rewarded.

As they say, all good things come to an end. I thank you for all your emails, messages and comments. I can only pray that this little work I've done will be accepted as charity (jariah)  Forgive my shortcomings dear friends in all the years we have worked together directly or indirectly. Perfection is but Allah's.

Feel free to use any material you may find useful here.
All the best in your career.
Keep me in you prayers in sha Allah...and keep that passion burning!
Farewell

I'm an English master teacher in SM Sains Sembrong, Kluang, Johor and this is my thirty first year of teaching. A sweet young thing reminded me in a conference I attended some time back that I shouldn't  be proud of that fact. I may have received my license to teach thirty years ago but if I don't keep up with the changes in education, I would be deadwood! Well...deadwood or not, thirty years have passed. Retirement did cross my mind a couple of times but I guess it can wait because I've a lot more to do. 😎

Some people say I'm a perfectionist hahah! Seriously, what's wrong with that? It just means I set high standards for any tasks. Where work is concerned the most important thing is to give your best. If after trying your best, you fall short of your aim or expectation then it's o.k. If you're a teacher, give your best to your students. Don't shortchange them for mediocrity. After all we owe it to the children.

Teaching is fulfilling I tell yer 😎😎😎 provided you're willing to learn, be creative, resourceful and patient. You have the license to be creative in the classroom so roll-up your sleeves and get dirty. Do what you've always wanted to do for your students, teachers and your career. It's o.k. to make mistakes but don't die not trying. I've got out there, made mistakes and made it back and I'm going out again!

I bake sometimes (more like once in  a blue moon) and you can call me a hoarder of recipe books... started collecting recipe books since I was 17 (perhaps I was mulling on baking as a career then). My culinary skill is nothing to shout about but hey I can leave an impression or two with my moist chocolate cake! And my sardine rolls are not too bad lah 😍

On a more serious note 🙂, I love challenges and never want to be stuck in a rut. That is why I need to keep myself busy with interesting things like writing, blogging, research etc. I need to be intellectually challenged. My greatest fear in life is to be burnt out! On my favourite day (Saturday), I enjoy a quiet breakfast over a mug of nescafe and the morning papers. Two achievements I value most are the Dr Basil Wijasuriya Award for "Best Teacher Presenter' in MELTA International Conference (2009, 2012) and being appointed Master Teacher.

Keep good friends even if they're far and few between because good friends are the ones who really count. Forgive your haters but do not forget them 😆😆😆 (Blogger has emoji now wow!)

To achieve the Special Grade C was beyond my imagination and therefore I've a lot to be thankful for. For all the good things that have come my way, I humbly say Alhamdullillah. Although they didn't come easy, I feel so blessed and I know what this really means is I have a lot to give back.

Thanks for dropping by.
Pray that I have a lot of money and good health to travel the world!
I don't know if I can ever stop blogging 😍
Happy teaching peeps 😎
